The Popcorn Effect – The Secret to Success in your Business

Do you struggle in the area of consistency in your business?  Are you aware that your lack of showing up every day is one of the main reasons why you're not successful?  If the answer is yes, then look no further than your kitchen cabinet for the solution.  There is a “secret” to success that we can learn from an ordinary bag of popcorn.  Allow me to introduce you to “The Popcorn Effect”.     

You might be asking yourself, what does a bag of popcorn have to do with me being successful in my network marketing business?  Let me explain.  The one thing that I know is this: consistency is the key to success in anything that we do.  When we talk about consistent effort, it's often tied to the magic number of 90 days.  Many experts feel that if you are willing to sustain consistent effort over a 90 day period in your business that you can create extraordinary results.  The problem for most people is that most of the time they fall far short of this 90 day goal.  

Most network marketers struggle with consistently building their business because they only take action when it's convenient or when they feel like it.

They're not in a part-time business; they're in a “some-time” business.  They work their business “some-time”, with no consistency and as a result never achieve the level of success they desire.

Allow me to introduce to you a very valuable lesson that we can learn from a bag of popcorn.  I want to think about how long it takes to fully cook a bag of popcorn in a microwave.  The last time I checked it took about three minutes to fully cook.  

For the purpose of this example, I want you to think about every minute that it takes to cook a bag of popcorn as a 30-day period in your business.  You put that bag of popcorn in the microwave and you set the timer to three minutes and hit start.  

Now in the first minute that the popcorn is cooking in the microwave, how many of the kernels actually pop?  In most cases you don't see any kernels pop in the first minute.  Absolutely nothing happens.  I'll come back to that in a minute.  

During the second minute you just begin to start to see some of the kernels pop.  There isn't a ton of stuff happening yet, but you begin to see some results.  You know that something's working.  It's in the third minute that all the kernels begin to pop.  Like 98% of the results happen in that third minute of the popcorn cooking.  We've all been there before, just staring into the microwave watching in wonder as the bag starts to explode with the popcorn.  

What I'm trying to make very clear is that it takes the microwave three full minutes of continuous, sustained effort for the bag of popcorn to fully cook.  Before we go any further let me ask you this.  Does the microwave get frustrated after the first minute when none of the kernels pop?

Does the microwave think about quitting and start complaining to all of the other appliances?  Does it start to question whether or not it has what it takes to pop a bag of popcorn?  No.  It just keeps on cooking the bag with no regard for the lack of results.  It does this because it knows what's about to happen.  

Here's another question.  Does the microwave work any harder in the second or third minute than it did in the first?  No, it doesn't.  The microwave understands that 3 minutes of consistent effort will yield the results it desires 100% of the time.  

The Popcorn Effect

This is such a powerful analogy for what it takes to be successful in your business.  If you are willing to just employ that same strategy, commit to 90 days of all out consistent effort you can make miracles happen in your business.  

Here's the key, don't get frustrated when your popcorn doesn't start to pop in the first minute.  When you start taking the consistent effort don't quit after 30 days because you're not seeing the results that you want.    

Here's what some of you are doing.  You're putting your popcorn in for a minute (working 30 days), and then when you don't see any results you stop and take the bag out of the microwave.   You get frustrated so you stop taking action and working your business.  You start to pout, and you say, “I don't know if I want to do this anymore.”

Then the next week you get excited again and muster back up the courage to get back to work and you put your bag of popcorn in the microwave again.   You cook it for another minute.  Then something else happens, you get distracted and stop working your business.  You take the bag or popcorn back out.  

You could continue this process forever and you would never see any results.  You're missing the most important part of the lesson.  It's not just the three minutes that's the key to success.  It's three CONSECUTIVE minutes.  That's what it takes to succeed, consistent effort.

You need to learn that lesson from a bag of popcorn.  Be willing to employ yourself in your business consistently for 90 days.  Don't get frustrated when you don't see the results right away.  Understand that by the time you see the results, 90% of the work is already done.

I promise you that if you are willing to commit to 90 days of all out massive action you can make miracles happen in your business.  Just always remember, keep your popcorn in the microwave.
